Man who left dog to die might get prison term

A West Shore man who abandoned a yellow Labrador retriever to slowly starve to death could face a prison term after pleading guilty to an animal cruelty charge yesterday.
The count to which John L. Shafer, 31, of Silver Spring Twp., pleaded in Cumberland County Court carries a maximum penalty of 2 years in prison and a $1,000 fine, Senior Assistant District Attorney John Dailey said.
